"I'm So Glad": Kansas City's Untold Legacy of Black Gospel Music
From the turn of the 20th Century through the 1960s and 1970s Black gospel blues gave voice to a people living in troubled times. Infectious rhythms and harmonies infused a soulful element into secular and sacred music that lives on today. Kansas and The Greater Kansas City Area, including the historic 18th & Vine neighborhood, played a prominent, if often overlooked, role as a crossroads on the legendary Gospel Highway.
